New logo, bilingual name, progress made!

When we welcomed the bilingual Roman Catholic Diocèse de St-Jean-Longueuil (in Québec just south of Montréal), we had the opportunity to create a French web site. (We now had both a need for one, and people who could edit it skillfully).

That did, however, reveal some weaknesses with our former identity, Net Zero Churches, which did not translate well, and did not express the depth of our hope: none, no more, zero… polluting emissions from our churches!

This led to the need for a new logo, generously and creatively produced by Lee Ann Matthews of the Anglican Diocese of Montréal. We are now ready, when the time comes, to provide a Zero Emission Synagogues and Zero Emission Mosques site.

In fact, our emails will likely come to you from zeroemissionfg.ca, where the “fg” stands for Faith Groups. Ours is an interfaith ministry because the planet is not being suffocated by our beliefs, but by our GHGs. That is an area where we can all work together.

Please celebrate with us that the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada has joined our work, and the Anglican Diocese of Toronto passed a very strong motion at its Synod (annual meeting of members), including using the Zero Emission Churches building and energy assessment process as part of their Every-5-year building survey, and that “All redevelopment projects [shall] clearly demonstrate efforts to adopt energy solutions that will bring them closer to net-zero GHG”. These are the kinds of policies which will bring positive change rapidly.

How can you help?

Our next challenges are to increase our network of volunteer advisors in dioceses, to bring in more regional faith groups, and to develop materials to encourage members of congregations to change their heating and cooling systems (and then encourage their neighbours to do the same).

Can you help with that? Contact us if you can!
